Tamarindo is a small but beautiful town at the North Pacific Coast of Costa Rica. It is known as “la costa dorada de Costa Rica” – the gold coast of Costa Rica. It is a 5 hours drive away from Costa Rica´s capital San José. Tamarindo is the perfect place for surfing and relaxing on the beach. However, there are plenty of other things to do – rafting, deep sea fishing, diving, visiting national parks, horseback riding along the beach or just enjoying the beautiful nature.

Tamarindo is a small town at the North Pacific Coast of Costa Rica, with about 5 hours car ride to San José, the Capital. It is a perfect place to learn Spanish and meet new people while enjoying the sun.

Things to Do, See and Enjoy in Tamarindo

The Spanish courses in Tamarindo offers a lot of different afterschool workshops and activities. If you don´t want to participate in the planned events the school offers and rather want to see Tamarindo for yourself, we have a few tips for you.

Caño Negro National Park: Near the Nicaraguan border you can explore the national park with kayaks. You see places that are off the beaten track. You may also get the chance to see little crocodiles and plenty of birds. It is a great experience spending two days in the Caño Negro National Park.

Las Baulas National Marine Park: The national park is located in the north of Tamarindo. Between October and May you can see the female leatherback sea turtles laying their eggs. It is one of the most important nesting sites for the leatherback sea turtles. More than half of the park is underwater, but it also has beautiful white-sand beaches, mangroves and forests. The forests are home to a host of species of birds and many other animals.

Barra Honda National Park: It´s just 1.5 hours by car to the unique Barra Honda National Park. The main attraction is the system of limestone caverns. Two professional guides will lead you on the 4 hours tour through the Terciopelo Cave. It is one of the largest and most impressing caves in Barra Honda National Park.

Playa Tamarindo: Spending your day at the beach and enjoying the sun – a “must” if you´re doing a Language Course in Tamarindo. It is a good way to relax after your Spanish lessons. There are also small beautiful bars and restaurants at Playa Tamarindo. Here you can try some Costa-Rican specialities or just drink a cocktail while watching the gorgeous sunset.

Diving: Just 25 minutes from Tamarindo are the Catalina Islands – the perfect place for diving. The visibility is good throughout the year so you can see fish and rays. If you have luck you will also see some dolphins. It is definitely worth and you should not forget your underwater camera.

Surfing: Tamarindo is a surfer´s paradise for surfers from all around the world. With its warm water temperature the whole year, it is the perfect place for surfing and learning surfing. There are many surf shops and surf schools in Tamarindo.
